First United Methodist Church Alabaster

Worship

The Church exists to praise God.  Every Sunday morning, we gather as the Body of Christ to offer our prayers, our singing, our gifts, and our attentiveness as we grow together in faith.  Whether you are a “cradle Christian” or have never set foot in a worship service before, First United Methodist of Alabaster welcomes you to visit with us.  Here  you will find a spiritual connection and a warm family atmosphere that will enrich your week and your life.

Services

Contemporary Worship

Sundays in Restore at 8:30 and 10:00 a.m.

Our first service on Sunday is designed to encourage contemporary forms of worship through music style, instrumentation, preaching and experience.

Authentic Christian spirituality is a shared response of believers to God’s actions on our behalf. This exciting service attempts to take spirituality out of the closet of privacy and individualism and locate it smack in the middle of friendship and community. Come and join us in a unique vision that cuts across the grain of usual ways of doing church.

Traditional Worship

Sundays in the Sanctuary at 11:00 a.m.

Our second traditional service builds on more classical forms of worship style, but also offers fresh, wise, and challenging guidance that is rooted in the best of the tried and true liturgical traditions of the Christian tradition. It draws from decades of research in church history, hymnology and spirituality. This worship experience also lays the foundation for understanding Christian spirituality by tracing it from the ancient church to the present, showing how biblical teaching has been developed theologically and informed by changes in culture.

It also explores how we can return spirituality to its biblical source, living out God’s story in our individual lives and in our life together as the church. You will be encouraged and equipped to live out your spirituality as a deeper and more delightful response to God’s divine embrace.

Service of Word, Table, & Prayers for Healing

Sundays in the Sanctuary at 9:00 a.m.

Our early traditional service is even more traditional than our 11:00 service. With no projectors and a lectionary-based message, this weekly sacred and reverent service in the Sanctuary provides the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and connect with God through sung and spoken prayers, God’s Word, and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. There is also a time of response for those who wish to come forward for anointing and special prayers.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir of First UMC is the main vocal group for our Traditional Worship Service, as well as special Seasonal Programs.  We are composed of volunteer singers, who love music and love to worship.

The Choir exists to edify and encourage the body of Christ within this church as part of the Helps Ministry (1Cor 12:28). Our goal is to praise and worship God, not just in worship services, but also with our lives, so that ‘the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart’ are acceptable to the Lord (Ps 19:14). Within a worship service, our goal is to bring the congregation into the presence of God (2Ch 7:1,2; 1Pet 2:5) and set the stage for the preaching of the Word of God with the ultimate goal of changing lives into the image of God (Rom 12:1,2; 2Cor 3:18).  Music is one tool for achieving this purpose.

The Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 until 8:15.  Our repertoire includes contemporary and hymnal arrangements, as well as arrangements with more traditional settings.

Our director is Richard Searson.  Richard has been at FUMC since May of 2011.

If you are interested in joining our Chancel Choir, contact Richard at (205) 663-0509.

THE RESTORATION BAND

THE RESTORATION BAND, our Contemporary Worship Band, exists to edify and encourage the body of Christ within this church as part of the Helps Ministry (1Cor 12:28).
